Château Haut-Bages Libéral 2010
The hamlet of Bages lies on the road to Pauillac, close to the grand properties of Pichon Longueville Baron, Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, and Château Latour. Further along the road, nearly at the top of the hill, is Château Haut-Bages Libéral, a small château - more of a comfortable manor house really - but an excellent spot for vine growing, with 28 hectares of deep Garonne gravel. It takes its name partly from the hill named Haut Bages, and partly from the name of the family who built up the property during the 18th century. Robert Parker awards this wine 92 points and comments: "Probably the finest Haut-Bages Libéral since the 1982". Serve with simple roast red meats when younger and with game and sauced meats as it matures.
